Analyze KJV Pronoun Usage by Grammatical Person

This tool analyzes pronoun usage in a passage for grammatical person (first-, second-, and third-person). It charts the results by chapter and annotates the Bible text. The data, charts, and annotated text may be downloaded.

    1. First-person pronouns (I, me, my, mine, we, us, our, ours) refer to the speaker or writer. High first-person pronoun frequency often indicates personal testimony, prayer, confession, autobiography, or other forms of self-disclosure.

    2. Second-person pronouns (thou, thee, thy, thine, ye, you, your, yours) refer to the person or persons being addressed. High second-person pronoun frequency often indicates exhortation, rebuke, instruction, covenant address, or other direct speech to an individual or group.

    3. Third-person pronouns (he, him, his, she, her, they, them, their, theirs) refer to persons, groups, or things being discussed. High third-person pronoun frequency often indicates narrative, historical reporting, description, or discussion of people, nations, or God.
